Principal's Message

Welcome to Lathrop Street Elementary School! I am thrilled to continue my work as principal of this amazing elementary school. Lathrop Street has always had a tradition of academic excellence, and the teachers here are as caring as they come.

Elementary school is an exciting and important part of every child’s life. At this level, we lay the foundation for their educational years to come. As principal, my number one priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of your child/children. Creating a safe, nurturing environment allows our students to grow and excel as learners and citizens, not just in school, but throughout their lives. At Lathrop Street, students follow our Meteor Motto: Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe. Through our PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports) program, we help promote important values and focus on finding the positive attributes each student brings to the table. This school is filled with students from different backgrounds and circumstances, and our students do an amazing job with understanding those differences and finding the good in each other.

One factor for success for students is attendance. Consistent attendance and an “every day counts” attitude is one piece to the puzzle when it comes to academic success. Our school will happily provide and share information regarding attendance, and will assist you with any concerns or challenges you may have in this area. Collaboration on this front is a vital!

There will be exciting things happening this school year! We are looking forward to having assemblies focused on positive character traits and recognizing the successes of our students, after-school clubs, and creating more engagement for families throughout the school year. Last year, we held a variety of after school clubs and activities. Some were academic based, like homework club and math club. Others were more social, with centered themes, including Disney Club, Harry Potter Club, Game Club, and Role-Playing Club. Community and family engagement is critical to the success of a school, and I am always willing to listen to any concerns or ideas you may have to help make this school a better place.

It is my pleasure and honor to work with our teachers, staff, students, and families here at Lathrop Street. Looking forward to a great year!
